Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 : What To Expect?

By Andres Pachon

Tony Hawk is known for many things, from being an awesome skater to caregiving philanthropist, he is probably one of the dudes that have given back the most to the skateboarding community around the world! One of his best and biggest contributions being his video games!

The Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise took skateboarding to a whole new level, a virtual one. Many 90’s kids learned about the existence of skateboarding SHIT® because of his games, they got a clear interest and were able to get a peek at the lifestyle, the lingo and even the music that fueled this whole movement to were it is now. There have been few video games that have been capable of capturing the skateboarding spirit in a truthful and unique manner, THPS 1 and 2 did exactly this, and Vicarious Visions studio and Tony himself got into the task of showing new generations what they missed out on in the late ’90s and early ’00s.

Skateboarding Nostalgia At Its Best?

As in everything, there are skeptics about the reboot, you know, whenever studios have a remake of an old beloved classic a lot of SHIT® could go wrong! We see it happening all the time in movies, and new is not necessarily better! But we believe in these franchises maybe a little beyond safety, and we hope that no matter what, the game will be an ode to skateboarding video games now as it was back then.

The fact that videogame tech has evolved so much since 1999, gives us some peace in this particular aspect since both the studio and Tony plan to keep all of the old features and game modes with the addition of top of the notch graphics and an update here and there that are supposed to increase the glory of the first to deliveries of the franchise (fingers crossed).

Create-A-Park and Create-A-Skater have been included back with amazing customization options. You will even be able to share parks online for other dudes to skate and give you feedback on, Hawk, Bucky Lasek and Steve Caballero are just a few of the old school skaters featured in the game, a cool fact is that the characters were designed with the skater's current physical appearance, which will totally give the game a realistic approach and become more of an evolution of the delivery from 1999.

Classic locations from the old games have also been restored and they will be shown to you in amazing 4K!

The Skaters In The Game

These are some of the dudes confirmed (in addition to those above) to appear in the September release. Of course, this is a process that takes time and this is just an appetizer for all of the names we will be seeing in the game

  • Geoff Rowley
  • Andrew Reynolds
  • Elissa Steamer
  • Chad Muska
  • Eric Koston
  • Rodney Mullen
  • Rune Glifberg
  • Kareem Campbell
  • Jamie Thomas
  • Bob Burnquist

They gave away most of the classic skaters, but we are also looking forward to seeing the new names that will be appearing on the game, Lizzie Armanto gave away her appearance and also sparked the rumors for this particular delivery before it was on everyone's mouth, who else do you expect to see?

Soundtrack

This is a big one! If you are a fan of the franchise you know that THPS has always been able to capture skateboarding spirit in the soundtrack of the games, the official trailer released on May 12, 2020, Gave us a few hints and states clearly that the game will include an “unforgettable soundtrack” which of course means that we will be hearing it as we did back then, here is what you can expect listening so far

  • Blood Brother by Papa Roach
  • Guerilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine
  • Jerry Was a Racecar Driver by Primus
  • May 16th by Lagwagon
  • No Cigar by Millencolin
  • Pin the Tail on the Donkey by Naughty By Nature
  • Police Truck by Dead Kennedys
  • Superman by Goldfinger
  • When Worlds Collide by Powerman 5000
  • You by Bad Religion

From hip hop to punk rock, the games stick to the classic subcultures always related to skateboarding, but is it just the classic tunes? Do they have something saved for the new generations? We bet there is plenty of new SHIT® to go along with the classics too! Most of the soundtrack and characters list is still a mystery that we hope is revealed soon!

THPS 1+2 has been confirmed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, the game will be dropped on September 4, 2020. We are really looking forward to this delivery and hope with our hearts that it lives up to the name of the first 2 drops of the franchise!
