Water is the worst enemy of wood. When it rains skate parks fill with mud and puddles and when the skateboard get in touch with those, it can cause the destruction of your skateboard. The bearings lose lubrication andeventually oxidize as the water swells the wood which causes the skateboard deck to deform.
Sand Down the Edges of The Deck
Sanding the skateboard can help you avoid a lot of chips on the skate deck, once in a while you may use sandpaper and softly apply pressure on the edges, you have to be careful doing this as the skateboard may get malformed.
Clean and Lubricate the Bearings
Bearings are the pieces that allows the wheels to roll. They define the speed and the smoothness of the skateboard so they must be clean and lubricated. To do this you have to take the wheels off, then remove the bearings off the wheels with the help of the axle. After you take the bearings off, wash them with denatured alcohol or methylated spirits. To finish, lubricate them with some bearing lubricant and put everything back in its place.
We hope this article assists you in maintaining your skateboard. It pays treating it with care so it will last longer and perform well as you pull off those tricks you love!
