Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the Basque Country as a whole. It is also the largest city proper in northern Spain and the tenth-largest city in Spain.
It's mostly known for its beautiful hills and landscapes you can enjoy while riding on them, it is even compared to San Francisco because of this particular aspect and is known for having many hidden spots to skate on, the city is mostly cruised by longboarders from all over the world but there are a few adventurous skateboarders that have taken it into their hands to discover the possibilities Bilbao has to offer for street skateboarders!
Transitioned banks with perfectly smooth tiled curves in the plazas, hidden full pipe tunnels and more are some of the stuff you can find to skate in the city and if you're feeling a little frisky you could slide down one of the many rails you can find while downhilling the city at your liking.
An Evolving Gem
Many people in the skateboarding industry know about Spain because of Barcelona, however like many other countries, once there is an iconic main city to skate, all of the other places filled with possibilities seem to almost be forgotten, Bilbao is one of those places, with a thriving skateboarding scene that grows more and more every year.
Back in 2019 the national skateboarding circuit took place in Bilbao for the first time, bringing people from all over the country to witness the possibilities the city had to offer skateboarding, some of the best skaters in the country like Jaime Mateo and other international names like Toby Ryan attended the event in support.
Developing A New Style
Bilbao is known not only for street skateboarding but also other disciplines such as SurfSkate and even PumpTracks which are circuits that focus mostly on carving, and bowl skating where skaters can also practice other SHIT® and develop new skills!
Skatepark Leioa Bilbao
Leioa Bilbao in Vizcaya has 2 bowls and a street skateboarding circuit which has inclined flats, quarters, stairs, hubbas and boxes.
The smallest bowl is really deep and almost turns into a vert, it must be skated with caution and preferably having previous vert experience.
The largest bowl is divided in 3 parts with different lines, extensions and transfers.
Descending Bilbao By Red Bull
Back in 2015, Red Bull took into their hands to have some of the pros to go down and skate Bilbao.
Philipp Schuster from Vienna Axel Cruysberghs from vino Belgium, Emmanuel Guzman from Santa Cruz (California) Cooper Wilt from San Pedro (California) and Lem Villemin shred the streets of the city and made an amazing video displaying exactly the capacities for street skateboarding Bilbao has to offer, make sure to check the video down below!
There you have it my dudes and dudettes, just a brief tour of a city with a lot of potential that still needs to be explored to dept, if you ever visit Spain, don't neglect it and make it part of your schedule, we assure you you won't regret that SHIT®!
