Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Jean-Marc Johannes started showing interest in skateboarding by the age of 10 and won his first contest at 11. By the time he was 15 years old he was already in the top ten rank of skateboarders in his country, many of the big names in the local industry took an interest in him due to his amazing skill at such young age.
Along his career he have completed many achievements, one of them was starting the “FILL THE GAP” charity organization which aims to help youth obtain gear to start skateboarding and provide the gear for kids in vulnerable situation all the necessary stuff to get into the world of skateboarding.
Back in august 2015 he recorded a video in which he states his purpose, to beat the previous world record of most landed Nollie Heelflips in 1 minute which at the time was 8.
He managed to break the record on his FIRST TRY reaching 11 NH in just 30 seconds! Not yet satisfied with his achievement, he made a second attempt in which he managed to get 14 NH in 46 seconds! Breaking his own record.
This trick is a variation of an ollie, only in this case you don't pop the tail but the nose of the board, add to this the 360 degree flip with the heel and this is what you get, a beautifully NH performed by Johannes which earned him the world record!
But this dude didn't stop there, just 2 years after his first record he broke another Guinness World Record for most fakie flips in one minute. Taking the record away from Rob Dyrdek, who set the record back in 2006. Johannes made 12 FH in 51 seconds at the Skateboarding for Hope event of that year. This dude has been raising the bar for years now and we wonder if he has any other record to set or break in mind!
"I took it upon myself to challenge these records because no other South African was doing it. I applied and the following year I again broke my own record with 18 in 50 seconds. Last year I also received the world record for SA's first international skateboarding gold, silver and bronze medalist ever - as my third world record," said the dude in a recent interview.
Big plans for the future
He does not leave aside setting up new crazy records, he even claims he wants to be the first guy jumping on a skateboard from one building's rooftop to another! Can you imagine that SHIT®? However, his main goal right now is to be able to participate in the Olympics representing SA and take home the win!
"I am confident that the Olympics will be my best competition performance to date, should I qualify," said Johannes to SA media platforms.
There you have it my dudes and dudettes, we are pretty sure we will be hearing much more from Jean-Marc in the future! How about you? Do you have any records in mind that you want to break? We can't wait to see what you have to offer!
