Since 2017 the Dolores Hill Bomb event has been held, an event honoring the oldest modality of skateboarding.

Before the Ollie, before the ramps, Hill Bomb was there, since skateboarding started, we have seen this activity consisting of taking advantage of slopes, going down the street in huge speeds, an intense thrill to everyone who pounces down with the skateboard or bikes.

Hill Bomb is a classic in skateboarding, throughout the years this modality also evolved to convert into what we now know of as Downhill. It’s a practice with a different board or longboard to get more speed and succeed going over the 100 km/h. Fast and dangerous, I know.

In California, there are a lot of slopes and a skater isn't going to waste the chance to go down one, and they are even better on Dolores Street, even if players might crash into other riders and get hurt.

Iconic moments

The event is known for its big show. It’s good entertainment for audiences to see people falling down, but also it's extremely funny to the riders descending the Dolores' slope in huge speeds.

During the first event in 2017, the police decided to stop the event and decided to park their cars in the middle of the street and the people going down ended up crashing into them. This moment was covered by news media and a lot of people couldn’t continue skateboarding because of what happened.

We can also remember in 2018 when Jake Phelps from Thrasher went down the Dolores slope but couldn't control his board and close to the finishing line made a fall and rolled down the street, the event finished with him in the hospital and after this, he had to recover with numerous injuries.

Like Phelps, there have been a lot of people that left the event in ambulances because of big falls. This year, with COVID-19 and riots the event still happened. Safe to say that a lot of people put a lot of importance to this event, and without a doubt, Dolores Hill Bomb shows the importance going outside and sharing some crazy shit with other people.
